Forbearance

What This Means For Your Business

The FCC recently granted a request called “Forbearance” which removes obligations set in place for the telecom companies back in 1996 to ensure reasonable practices and to protect consumers.

In essence, for you this means that your rates on POTS lines may increase if they haven’t already.
D1 Networks is prepared to assist you with these changes, and can implement alternatives to help lower your monthly bill.

Common Questions about Forbearance

Is this urgent? Do I need to act now?

While you may not need to act now, you may want to take advantage of the cost-savings now by moving away from resale services and transitioning to D1 Networks’ VoIP service. If you’re already seeing the increase in your monthly bill, this is for you.

How will this affect my current phone service?

While Resale services may still be available after February 2, 2020, this may come at a higher cost because of the following:

  1. The loss of the mandated discount that was once in place long ago

  2. The ILEC’s will no longer be maintaining these expensive copper lines because less customers will be using them, and may pass these higher costs on to you to shoulder them

  3. You may experience longer wait times for service or lack of service altogether because ILEC’s are no longer required to maintain these copper lines.

How can I protect my company from these changes?

D1 Networks can shield your company from these changes by switching you over to VoIP solutions with our EPIK device. Using the EPIK device, your current analog signal phone service is delivered to you over the Verizon 4G LTE network providing you the most comprehensive coverage nationally of any mobile network.

How does this ruling affect me and my business?

After February 2020, you may not be able to purchase phone lines or additional phone lines at the same prices because the ILECs are not required to offer them at the same costs you originally purchased them.

This order requires that these lines remain available until 8/2/22, but after that date they may no longer be available or priced at higher rates. While 2022 seems far away, we recommend making the change now to take advantage of the savings and avoid interruption to your phone service.

What should I do now?

D1 Networks can assist you in evaluating your current lines to discover if any of your them are negatively impacted. We have found that switching our customers over to VoIP services is what works to mitigate these changes.
